IPL7: RR Vs SRH 18/04/2014 - Results and Review

IPL7: RR Vs SRH 18/04/2014 - Results, Review and Statistical Highlights

Admit it, the one team you cannot hate in any Indian Premier League T20 match is Rajasthan Royals.  If you are one of the exception, I guess you are not a Rahul Dravid fan.  The reason why i stress that is because, this is one of the few teams that possesses a good sporting spirit which was led beautifully by Rahul Dravid last season.  However, Things are different for the Royals this year with Shane Watson their captain and Rahul Dravid as one of their mentors.

CricketSunrisers Hyderabad on the other hand have arguably the world's best bowler on their side - Dale Steyn.  Just like the 6th edition of the Indian Premier league, the Shikar Dhawan led team struggled to make a decent score ending up at around 130 but came back well while bowling.  They Choked the Royals until their last breath but Stuart Binny single handedly helped them towards a victory.  If not for Stuart Binny's innings, The Royals might have lost the match as no one at the other end looked comfortable especially against the swing of Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

Both the teams have underlying issues with their batting as well as bowling and need to look at themselves deep within as i still can't figure out which team deserved to win yesterday.  There is also a chance both the teams are pretty strong but that is something we will know when we see them face off other opponents.

Notable Performances

* Shikar Dhawan and David Warner's 30 Plus score helping the SRH towards a target of 133.

* Dhawal Kulkarni, Kane Richardson and Rajat Bhatia's two wickets.

* Stuart Binny's 48 Not Out helping the Rajasthan Royals towards a 4 wicket win.

* Dale Steyn and Amit Mishra's two wickets.

* Bhuvneshwar Kumar's exceptional swing bowling during the start of the RR innings.

IPL7: CSK Vs KXIP 18/04/2014 - Results and Review

IPL7: CSK Vs KXIP 18/04/2014 - Results, Review and Statistical Highlights

Brendon McCullum proved to us once again yesterday why he belongs to the the Twenty20 genre of cricket.  Looking at him bat yesterday brought glimpses of the very first match of the Indian Premier League where he achieved the Impossible (Scoring 150+ in a T20).  Well, that is history now as not even his and Dwayne Smith's heroics could help save the day for the Chennai Super Kings.  The Kings XI Punjab on the other hand proved why they are strong contenders for the title this year after they chased down a score of 205 with well over an over to spare.

There is absolutely no doubt that the Chennai Super Kings have few of the most fierce hitters of the cricket ball.  Unlike last year where they had Michael Hussey and Murali Vijay opening, this year it was Dwayne Smith and Brendon McCullum.  Boy, did they justify their worth yesterday with a hundred plus partnership for the first wicket with 70 of it just coming in 6 overs.

cricketNo offense to Michael Hussey and Murali Vijay, the team looks a lot stronger this year as weak links have been closed down and almost every batsmen of theirs can score runs at a rate of knots.  Their bowling however was a different story, as they couldn't even defend a target of 200+.  Their fielding on the other hand was well below par with a couple of drop chances, Dwayne Bravo's injury and a wrong umpiring decision (Maxwell's LBW off Ashwin) didn't help them much either.

Kings XI Punjab on the other look fresh and raring to go and looked up for reaching the target right from the first ball with Virender Sehwag showing glimpses of his old self.  One concern for them remains, if not Maxwell then who will take the responsibility for them to win matches?

David Miller gave good company to Maxwell but consistency might lack considering Maxwell was the major scorer in the partnership.  All in all to sum it up, both the teams got hammered in the bowling department and really powered their way through while batting and it was a great match.

It would be interesting to see how Punjab performs when Maxwell fails in the upcoming games and how quickly Chennai Super Kings recover from their shock defeat.

IPL7: RCB Vs DD 17/04/2014 - Results and Review

IPL7: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) Vs Delhi Daredevils (DD) 17/04/2014 - Results and Review

CricketAfter their horrendous performance last season at IPL 6, The Delhi Daredevils once again failed miserably during their opening match against the Royal Challengers Bangalore.  Right from the toss nothing went their way and Kevin Pietersen missing out due to a finger injury only made things worst for the Daredevils.  RCB on the other hand led by Virat Kohli had a near perfect match apart from a few moments during the end of their bowling innings when Ashok Dinda went for 17 runs in the last over.

The Daredevils lost a lot of wickets cheaply and at one stage looked as though they would struggle to reach a score of 130.  A fine partnership between Ross Taylor and JP Duminy ensured they reached a score of 145 with the former reaching a well deserved half century.  The total never looked enough especially considering that one of the world's best finisher's (Virat Kohli) was in the other team.

Some would say it was RCB's lucky day as two catches of Virat were dropped but the shots he played before and after those misshapes were out of this world.  He remained unbeaten on 49 while Yuvraj Singh made a half century to help their team cruise towards victory.  Hopefully this Half Century by Yuvi will not be a one off and will bring his confidence back. Apart from Yuvi and Virat, who can forget the wonderful innings by Parthiv Patel.  Boy, did he play well?

He was absolutely flawless until he was at the crease and really played exceptionally well and set the game up for this team.  For a small man, he is definitely one of the best and a keeper.  All in all to sum things up, RCB look really strong contenders for the IPL title this year while Delhi Daredevils despite shuffling their team completely look very out of shape.  Though this was one of their worst losses i would not count out  the Daredevils as just a little bit of fine tuning can bring them back.  Will it happen? well, let's just wait for their next match and see what happens.
