This game was not a must win contest for either of the teams but a lot of confidence could be taken forward if either one of them attained a victory going towards the business end of the tournament. The match saw some great Pakistani bowling and a good proteas fightback. Lets take a closer look at the Batting and Bowling Performance Reviews of each teams as it happened on Monday (03/06/2013.)
South Africa Batting and Bowling
South Africa's batting looked wobbly throughout, they looked the least prepared of both the teams as they kept losing regular wickets and at one stage it looked as though they might not even make a score of 150 but a good partnership between Ryan McLaren and JP Duminy ensured they reached a decent total to give their bowlers something to bowl at. The best highlights of the proteas batting were McLaren and Duminy who made a score of 55 and 43 respectively to help their team reach a target of 202.
When the South Africa bowlers came in to bowl they were looking to restrict the Pakistani batsmen to a score of less than 202 which was very low considering that these kind of targets have been chased down in 20 overs matches as well. All their bowlers had nothing much to play with and struggled a bit as the moisture in the pitch had dried out and there was no assistance to either one of them.
Pakistan Bowling and Batting
Pakistan bowlers justified the captain's decision of winning the toss and electing to bowl first, All their bowlers were up to the mark especially Junaid Khan who looked lethal. He is the one to look out for in the ICC Champions Trophy as he looks to be bowling exceeding well. The best highlights of their bowling were Asad Ali and Wahab Riaz who picked up 3 wickets and Junaid Khal who chipped in with a couple of wickets.
Pakistan ensured to carry on their bowling form into their batting as well, After the initial hiccup where they lost the wicket of Nasir Jamshed they had no looking back, Mohammed Hafeez came in and played a brilliant innings alongside Imran Farhat as they made a score of 54 and 56 Runs respectively before Hafeez retired himself out to allow the other players to get the hit, that was really it as far as them winning the match was concerned.
