After England led the series 3-0 prior to the 5th Ashes test that took place between 21/08/2013 - 25/08/2013 it was about time for Australia to try to gain some form of pride by atleast getting one win under the belt.  Unfortunately for them it was not to be as the match was hindered by rain but to be honest there are a lot of positives for the Australians as far as their bowling is concerned.  To know exactly how the match turned out to be, Read on for the complete Australia Vs England 2013 Results along with the batting and bowling performance review and the statistical highlights of the match.

Statistical Highlights

The match officially kicked off with Australia winning the toss and electing to bat first.  They did quite well during the course of their first innings with Shane Watson and Steven Smith hitting impressive centuries as they ended their innings after making a score of 176 and 138.  This helped the Aussies reach a score of 492/9 before they declared their first innings.  As far as England's bowling was concerned, James Anderson was once again the pick of their bowlers as he picked up 4 wickets.

The first innings by the Englishmen kicked off with a good partnership between Joe Root and Alastair cook during the start as they complied 68 for the first wicket.  Joe Root and Kevin Pietersen were the pick of their batsmen as they scored 68 and 50 respectively before their innings came to a close at 377.  As far as Australia's bowling in the first innings was concerned, James Faulkner made an impressive debut picking up 4 wickets.

There was a lot of rain disruption but eventually when the Aussies came into bat for their second innings on the 5th day they needed to set a target as quickly as possible to try and bowl out the Englishmen and win the match.  They declared at a score of 111/6 which left the Englismen to achieve a target of 227 to win the match and the series 4-0.  As far as England's bowling was concerned, Stuart Broad picked up 4 wickets.

England's second innings batting saw them really go after the target and they almost pulled off a victory after Kevin Pietersen and Joe Root made a score of 62 and 59 respectively.  They looked comfortable till the end after they needed 21 of 4 overs with 6 wickets in hand but unfortunately for them the light gave way for the results to show a thrilling draw.  Ryan Harris was the best highlights of their bowling as he picked up 2 wickets.
