Ashes 2013: The Aussies continue their unbeaten streak

Australia Vs England - 2nd Test - 5,6,7,8,9 December 2013 - Results, Review and Statistical Highlights

The Second Test match of the Ashes 2013 series between Australia and England at Adelaide Oval kicked off with the Aussies winning the toss and electing to bat first.  Considering their miserable performance during their England Ashes Series, during the first test of the return series, the Aussies looked a lot more stronger, confident and passionate about their game.  The second test was no different with Aussies really going after the under confident English batsmen.  All in all as a cricket fan, this series so far has been fantastic to see as everyone likes to see a bit of revenge.  To know about what happened during the course of the 2nd test, Read on for the complete Results, Scorecard, Batting and bowling performance review and statistical Highlights of the match.

Statistical Highlights

When Australia came into bat during their first innings, they lost the wicket of David Warner early but a splendid partnership between Brad Haddin and Michael Clarke and useful half centuries by Shane Watson, George Bailey and Ryan Harris ensured that they got a massive score of 570/9 before they declared.  As far as England's bowling during the first innings was concerned, almost all their bowlers looked quite a bit clueless, Stuart Broad managed to pick up 3 wickets in the process.

Sheer pace by Mitchell Johnson during England's first innings left them clueless.  Johnson ripped apart the England batting and took 7 wickets with England's top scorer being Ian Bell who made 72.  Michael Carberry Also made a useful contribution of 60 before they were bundled out for a score of 172 which left the aussies in commanding lead.

Despite having a chance to get England to follow on, the aussies chose otherwise and came in to bat.  David Warner made 83 to help them reach a score of 132 for 3 before they declared which left England a target of 5311 which was a close to impossible task.

During Second Innings, the English batsmen were a lot better than before.  Half Centuries by Joe Root, Kevin Pietersen and Matt Prior looked good on paper but was too little to affect Australia's chances of victory.  They were eventually bowled out for 312 giving the Australians 2nd consecutive test win.
