Ashes 2013: The Aussies execute a perfect whitewash at home

Australia Vs England - 5th Test - 3,4,5 January 2014 - Scorecard, Review and Statistical Highlights

After Australia's Horrendous tour in England who would have thought things would change so significantly in such short span of time? England's convincing home ashes series memories are all over and now they are left with nothing but nightmares of Graeme Swan's retirement, Jonathan Trott's indefinite Sabbatical from cricket and last but not the least a 5-0 hammering.  To start off the fifth ashes test match kicked off on a positive note for the visitors as they won the toss and put Australia in to bat.

CricketThe Aussies first innings looked to be collapsing at a rapid pace until Brad Haddin and Steven Smith resurrected their innings with significant contributions to help the home team reach a score of 326 in their first innings.  After getting the Aussies to around a score of 97/5, England had no one but themselves to blame as they had handed over the advantage back to the home team.  As far as England's bowling was concerned, Ben Stokes picked up 6 wickets.

During their first innings, England started off things shakily and once again had no answer to the Aussie pace attack.  Ryan Harris and Mitchell Johnson and Peter Siddle ripped through their top order with the visitors only amassing 155.

When the Aussies came in to bat during their second innings, there was absolutely no pressure on them.  England's win looked out of the equation and the only question now was what kind of a target were the Australians looking at.  The Aussies as expected came in all guns blazing with Chris Rogers scoring an impressive century before they were bowled out for 276 which meant England had a target of 448 and were once again in the back foot.

During their second innings, chasing 448 England folded for 166 giving the Australians a 5-0 win.
